Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is a state-owned art museum located in Richmond, Virginia. Its doors first opened in 1936. Since then, it has expanded to include more than two million square feet of exhibit space. Today, the museum’s collections span a wide range of subjects, from sculpture to contemporary art.
Since its opening, the VMFA has undergone five expansion projects. The latest project will add 100,000 square feet of gallery space and renovate four thousand square feet. It also includes a new space dedicated to collecting works on paper. The museum also plans to expand its education programs and offer more opportunities to students.
The VMFA is one of the nation’s top art museums. The permanent collection features nearly 50,000 works of art. This includes important works of art from around the world, including the world’s largest collection of Faberge outside of Russia. It is also home to an extensive collection of South Asian, American, and European art. Additionally, the museum offers internships for college students and organizes community events for children. It also rents out its galleries for wedding receptions and other events.
